This page showcases my best writing from literature writing courses. Below you can find three writing samples. Each sample has an abstract that reflects on the success of each assignment. You must have a password to open the writing sample files.
Sample One: “‘Text without Context:’ Jessard Deal’s Literary Allusions in Louis Owens’ The Sharpest Sight”
“‘Text without Context:’ Jessard Deal’s Literary Allusions in Louis Owens’ The Sharpest Sight” is a paper I wrote for Contemporary American Literature to fit the brief of a literary research paper for the final project. I believe that I met all objectives for the assignment as the piece is a 2,500 word paper which placed first in the Carson McCullers Literary Awards.
Sample Two: “Milverton Versus Magnussen: Updating a Victorian Villain for the Modern Era”
“Milverton Versus Magnussen: Updating a Victorian Villain for the Modern Era” is a paper I wrote for an independent study on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. I believe that I met all objectives for the assignment as the piece is a 5,000 word paper that takes a new historicist approach to analysing the portrayals of the two versions of the Conan Doyle character Charles Augustus Milverton.
Sample Three: “J.K. Rowling Has Always Been Problematic: Anti-Feminist Tendencies in Harry Potter”
“J.K. Rowling Has Always Been Problematic: Anti-Feminist Tendencies in Harry Potter” is a paper I wrote for Critical Methods to fit the brief of an analytical research paper using the literary theory of our choosing for the final project. I believe I met all objectives for the assignment as the piece is a 3,800 word paper that utilizes feminist theory to analyse the characters in Harry Potter.
